Proform 440R is a very versatile, professional grade, magnetic resistance, built-in dual action all-in-one rowing machine at a reasonable price, with aluminium seat rail, ergonomic and comfortable molded cushion seat, pivoting large bike pedals with velcro foot straps that are adjustable, a large and easy to read LCD monitor that shows time, distance, calories burned, strokes per minute, total strokes and scan mode (each parameter is shown for 6 seconds) to track your progress. Dual action means a high end classic rower that engages your whole body with 8 levels of resistance with an inertia enhanced flywheel to let you row smoothly (sitting position) and a flexible low pulley for doing overhead tricep extensions, deadlifts, bicep curls and deltoid raises- upper body strength training or for simply warming up before exercise (standing position). This is a high end budget magnetic resistance rower that weighs 68 pounds with a solid but lightweight aluminium frame (and maximum user weight limit is still 250 pounds) and inertia enhanced small flywheel for smooth and efficient rowing experience (the larger the flywheel the smoother the ride will be but this model offers quiet and smooth experience).
Black Proform 440R is compact and space saving with measurements of 77 x 21 x 38 inches when assembled so it can fit in smaller areas comfortably and as it has a foldable design and transport wheels it can be wheeled away for storage (to fold it, simply pull the pin, lift the rail and reinsert the pin to lock it). This very versatile rower is ideal for beginners as it can be quite gentle when needed and the highest resistance level is hard enough for more advanced people wanting a challenging workout (change the resistance level through the big red knob in the middle underneath the LCD panel and no pre-set programs, you need to adjust the resistance only manually because of the lower price point). As minor negatives, it is not super easy to assemble and can be a bit complicated (some parts could be pre-assembled) but comes with detailed instructions and if you follow the steps you shouldn’t have any problems and simple circular rod handle is slimmer than other rowers and can be uncomfy if rowing for a while holding it tightly but we do like the large pedals (large enough for most feet) and the smallish but well padded seat as they are both quite ergonomic and comfortable.
